The Bianchi Pista line continues into 2010, with a preview of the new Bianch Pista Via Brera shown here. Traditional steel frame and fork with chrome fork ends, it will ship as shown with the cork grips and matching suede saddle and toe clip covers. I’d assume a brake will be in the box as well, because the Pista Via Brera will ship with a SRAM Torpedo fixed/free rear hub. Scheduled for a fall 2009 availability, there is no word on geometry or pricing quite yet.

WoW! Smack me with a stick that’s gorgeous. Bianchi coming in with a classic! reminds me of this only lighter! http://www.flickr.com/photos/27018212@N05/3545409073/
Looks good, but why put a Torpedo Hub (or even a fixed/free flip-flop hub) if its not even drilled for a rear brake? Looks good, but I don’t like the idea of encouraging more folks to ride a freewheel and no rear brake.
The front brake does more than half of the work. Where is it? Reminds me of the Viva bikes: http://www.vivacykler.dk/images/bikes2009/track/track.jpg
James,
You are correct about stopping power, but if the front brake fails (or overheats on a long downhill) you are screwed.
Also if you are riding in slick conditions and skid the front tire, you will crash.
Everyone gets to make their own decisions, but they should be aware of the risks.

Hey, I run two brakes on my fixed, and use them. I have 40y old knees, and a family to support.
Unicrown fork kills the aesthetics for me.
A torpedo hub with a dingle cog: there’s an idea!
I might be incorrect but as I recall Sheldon suggested that a freewheel bike only needs a front brake, and the use of the rear is for inexperienced riders. these days inexperienced riders just ride without brakes, because they don’t want to be “wussies”.
jon’s got it. unicrown is a big fat horrible. replace with a flat crown, ASAP
what’s wrong with the unicrown? just the thought of a lugged flat crown fork on this frame kinda grosses me out. unless you mean non-lugged? either way, i prefer it’s womanly curves.
a very pretty bike out of the box
very pretty
very very pretty
sort of like a boob job
I really like the looks of this bike
just like everyone else I see it and think that I want it
…….still a pretty bike, but yes i do agree, replace the unicrown with a flat frown to make a BEAUTIFUL bike.
the front fork gives away the fact that this is a mass produced taiwanese frame, but the whole thing is very very nice. A flipped north road bar would give it a really vintage look, like the Pashley guvnor but obviously more racy. Also, it has to have a rear brake with a freewheel in the Uk and most European countries, that is the law. Is the rear fork drilled for a brake if it isnt it is definitely sending out the wrong signals. I ride a fixie with a front only but wouldnt go out without a rear
This bike comes with both a front and a rear brake, only the picture doesn’t show it. It’s a beautiful bike that is a bit over priced at $800.
I have owned a Bianchi in the past and the frame showed the attention to detail that Bianchi puts into their bikes. I am curious to find out if this is bike is manufactured in Italy or another Asian country. If it’s manufactured in Italy Bianchi usually touts it on their frames.
hmmm. nice- the uni-crown fork i think is probably a no-no on a “RETRO’ style bike-thats just me though-
