Slowtwitch.com posted an excellent tech piece about bearings, detailing the differences between cup and cone and cartridge bearings and dispelling some myths about “sealed” and ceramic bearings. It’s written for the triathlete audience, but worth the read.
The most hassle-free bike is never the “fastest” bike on paper. Those without an excess of spare time may be faster in-the-end with a “slower” product that gives them more time to train (or sleep, or whatever). And let’s be honest – they’re just giving us what we asked for. We’re all a bunch of weenies, whether it be weight, aero, or rolling resistance. I’m starting a new category – reliability weenie.
