We learned about the Auckland GetAcross protest from Sammo in New Zealand. He writes:

Today we took part in a protest to gain cyclist and pedestrian access to the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Attached are some photos and links to the local news site articles.

  • First, let me say I love Urban Velo and the whole smash.

That said, the article in the N.Y compost by Agent Smith really pissed me off.Big time. This media whore must really really want to keep his job and seems to tow the company line.

The added comment of “questionable immigration” really spiced things up for me too.I could not beleive my eyes for a few minutes but when you have that much hate anything is possible i guess, hence the story.

Agent Smith, next time it won’t be a bike that gets ya,because Karma always works but is never the same thing twice.Happy Trails Mate.

  • It’s about time. I lived in Auckland for two months last year, staying in the suburbs north of the city, right across the harbour bridge. The only way to get into town by bike without going all the way around the harbour was to take a slow, pretty expensive ferry that ran unreliably (and not at all on late nights and weekends). I ended up taking the bus or hitchhiking almost every day.

I was working for a bike shop and had expected the whole thing to be a lot of fun, but that freaking bridge pretty much ruined it for me.
