Ask Prolly: How Did You Do It?
Like Prolly, we get this question from a number of people as well. “How do you do it?” How do you blog, start a magazine, make bikes pay the bills… Suffice to say, it’s not easy but very rewarding if you can manage to make it happen. Writing down Jeff and I’s experience and thoughts on making cycling magazines together for nearly a decade could fill a book and isn’t the easiest to actually write down even if we really wanted to. While not exactly the same, it’s not exactly different either—Prolly has some concise, on point advice on the subject at his recent post, Ask Prolly: How Did You Do It?
My advice would be: hustle. Always be on the hustle. Do what you love and be humble about it. If you do start a blog, don’t expect instant gratification. Patience is key. Just like cycling, you’re not going to be able to climb the biggest hill or do a century without some form of training. You’ve gotta work for it. I see a lot of blogs get way too greedy within the first year of starting up.
