Areaware iF MODE Folding Bicycle
The Areaware iF MODE folding bicycle is a machine that looks like a vaporware concept bike but is in fact available as a full production unit. The bike is remarkable in design, using a single lever and tight interfecernce fits to fold near instantly.
The one-sided fork and rear chainstay allow the wheels to fold tight next to each other for a compact unit, and it allows tire changes without wheel removal. The fully encased drivetrain keeps things clean, and a Schlumpf heel controlled shifting unit provides two gears – one for cruising, one for speeding home. The folding motion is captivating, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It’s just about 30lbs total and comes in at a little over $2000 complete.

Beautiful bike! My daughter and I have been riding Strida bikes since March of 08′ but this would be great for potholes. Fenders and a rack would be a nice touch. I also hear that there’s a three speed hub gear in the works for the Strida, which combined with the current gear in this bike, would create a six gear drive.
I’d also love to see this bike available in the Strida Creme LE paint, with whitewall tires, and a removable wicker basket. Now that would be a pretty bike!
Good thing there’s no dealer nearby, or else I’d probably buy one after a test ride. From the reviews I’ve read, this is a solid bike. Our Strida’s get enough attention as it is. I can’t imagine the attention this bike would generate!
