Abus Kranium Helmet Now Available (UK)

As Brad wrote in a previous post, the recyclable Kranium helmet from Abus is now available in Europe. The helmet, designed around the biomechanics of Woodpeckers (seriously), is of cardboard construction and shown to prevent head injuries above standard head protection. The Kranium is slated to be released in the States sometime in 2013, let’s hope in the early part of the year. The video above shows the internal construction of the helmet and the story of it’s creation.

Somewhere I read it’s supposed to be lighter than current foam helmets that are 250 – 350 grams roughly. Abus’ website gives numbers that are 550 – 650 grams for the cardboard helmet. I hope they aren’t that heavy.
