Abandoned Bike Art Exhibit
Well, I guess if all those abandoned bikes in New York weren’t going to get removed by the city, then something of value needed to be down with them. Radio Station WNYC called on New York citizens to send in photos of abandoned bikes, which they submitted to the city for removal. They were overwhelmed with 500+ submissions, of which they report only a small percentage were removed due to a lengthy reporting process and “strict removal criteria”.
WNYC has now compiled the photos into an art exhibit they will be showing at The Greene Space through September 4th. The exhibit will showcase abandoned bikes, mangled parts and projections of submitted photos. I don’t know if the intent is to shame the city into taking action or just turn a visual blight into something with more artistic value. Either way, if you’re in the area check it out.
